Dance and Mental Health

Children's mental health awareness week 7-13th February 2022


How often have you been a bit lost for words unsure of how to express your emotions? Now if you can feel like that with all the life experience you have I wonder how many more times a child feels like they need a different way to channel their emotions.


From my experience it is wonderful to see a child move to the music either in a completely free way or with the guidance and steps taught to them in class. Every child will find the thing that makes their heart sing and makes them feel most alive. Giving them the opportunity to dance is a stepping stone on that path of self discovery.


Not every class is the same, for example a pure ballet class is more likely to follow a set structure of exercises each lesson and not always as many opportunities for free movement.


At Dance Rox we incorporate multiple dance and performance disciplines into class so a child has the chance to gain the vital skills needed to dance, the discipline and the knowledge of how their body works. But also almost every class gives them their chance to be creative, to move with the beat, often using a prop like a scarf or ribbon. We give them the tools to take what is going on inside their minds and let it out through their bodies.
